The building platform of this project is surrounded by earth berms to keep the future house mostly hidden from the neighbours. Tied in with this condition was the allowance of ‘view shafts’ to be cut into the berm at select locations, which would reveal some of the iconic peaks of the region once the construction began. I had the requirement to create indicative visuals that could be shown to reveal how this might look for the information of prospective buyers.

Drawing the scenes straight onto the views was a dynamic start to the design process

Drawing the scenes straight onto the views was a dynamic start to the design process: From my on-site photography I presented a layered photoshop 360ยบ panorama from the centre of the site. I had it set up in such away that we could erase parts of the berm to reveal the views behind. Using a tablet and pen, we interactively ‘sculpted’ the view shafts and then saved them as framed views.

The furniture and architectural features were then sketched onto the vistas to create drafts, which pictured how the house might ‘frame’ the various views. Again, this was undertaken interactively; with the client at my side, with us referring to a stack of high-end property magazines for inspiration.
